RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

I guess its the old saying- if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is...
By the way, under Greenman's expert tutelage I am assembling a parts list for a two phase build to both increase torque while simultenously bulletproofing the motor by ridding it of its inherent flaws, namely not enough oil to the top end and the cam-chain tensioner shoe problem. It is nothing radical- designed to be done on a budget and not put to big of a dent in the bikes' fuel economy.
When the list of parts is complete, I will post them here for everyone, provided that each person that benefits buys Greenman a beer!
Ride safe, y'all. (I can say now that since I live in Kentucky...)

Follow up on Greenman's accessory plug part: This link shows how to extend it so it fits in your saddlebag:

I plan to do this, right now its plugged in and ziptied inside the side cover.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Bobby, there is a lot of discussion around suspension on the RoadKing Riders forum. I have heard that the ride with the standard height shocks is a little softer, but not that it is better from a handling point of view. Many people also upgrade to Progressive brand shocks. Check our their website and let us know your thoughts. Progressive shocks are on my long range upgrade list. When I replace the front fork with the chrome version like our pal Gringo has already done, I am going to replace the springs with the Progressive front fork springs... I am still thinking about the rear shocks as they are pretty pricey...

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

After fighting with the new brake lines I finally got them bled on Saturday (the very last chore in my handlebar upgrade project). So, today, I took the bike out for its maiden voyage with the new apes- they are fantastic!

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

OK Guys, just remember next time I have a problem.... you can't spell R-E-T-A-R-D without R-E-D.
It was operator error- I started working my way backwards and through my work and realized that I transposed my wiring map. When I checked it against the wiring diagram, I realized I had put the wires back in to the switches backwards. After I switched them, she fired right up.
Now, only issue is smoke coming from under the heat shield on the right side exhaust. I probably spilled something on the pipe when it was loose- most likely a drop or two of oil...
More good news- barnett will have my cable from goodrich tomorrow and say they will overnite it to HD for my pick up Friday. That means, assuming RETARD RED can figure out how to install the brakeline and bleed brakes by myself (bought a mightyvac pump), then I will be able to take that trip afterall...

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Sorry for hogging up all the posts, but I have a new symptom to report:
connected up the switches from the nascelle and plugged in the headlight. No change and headlight also does not work. Tested all the fuses- light in box lights up for every one. Switched the two relays since I can't test them- no change....
Any ideas?

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

One friend says that it could be the bike detects no headlight or nacelle switches and therefore won't start and to also check fuses.
I called the dealer who says it can easily be a pinched wire in the handlebars somewhere and to check for that....
This reminds me of an episode of American Chopper, except starring me... I can hear the announcer, setting up the premise for the beginning of the show...
Will RedDenver find out why his bike won't start in time? Will Goodrich ship him the custom brake line he needs by Friday?
Or....
Will his vacation plans come to a screeching halt?...
Find out on the next episode of RIDERREPORT CHOPPERS.. the Internet Edition...

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

The directionals are hooked into the security system some how. Do you have the alarm/fob/security dealio on your bike?
I do. I tested the key fob, and the alarm seems to activate and deactive as usual. When activated, it chirps and then the red key light in speedo blinks, when I deactivate, it chirps and then the red key light goes away...

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Well Bros- I put most of my bike back together. I am still waiting on the brakeline... but with everything back together I tried to start it up- no go. It won't start.
I have not put the nacelle or headlight back one, so not sure if that may be the issue. When I turn on the power, Get no error messages, and the speedo shows mileage and such. The normal lights seem to work per normal, except the oil lamp stays lit. can't remember if it always did that and turns off after starting or not...
Anyway, the brake light works when I push the rear brake pedal (front lever does not engage light (is that because there is no brakeline in the master cylinder?) Also, turn signals do not work- front ones stay lit and rear ones are out. Flipping blinker switches does nothing. I am not sure if its because I have the passing lamp kit and with the nacelle on the switches are still not connected because they are in the nacelle which is still not on.
When I switch the bike to run, I hear the little whine, but push start button and nothing- dead silence... so- what is the verdict? blown fuse(s) or worse? Is there a possibility my soldering in the handlebars is bad? or, is it that stupid 12v thing I also have plugged into the accessory port under the seat?
I am open to any ideas... Thanks.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

I think if you found the one with the rubber cap, that's probably it. The one I found really isn't under the seat it hangs down by the right side fuse box.
Ok. The plug I found is directly under the seat kind of buried at the bottom of the square opening there between the frame rails. It had a rubber plug in it. It was not dangling down the side, so I think this should be the one.

Does the second plug also have a rubber cab in it? How can it be larger and still fit?

LionFan, glad you are up and running again.
Do you still have the 12v thing plugged in under your seat? If so, does it work?
